Hi friends,
Do you ever feel like the crazy person in a room full of sane people?
Like every other writer has a cheat code that you weren’t given?
Do you look at the way most do business and while you know you should do what they’re doing, you can’t because it’s just not your style?
Yeah, me too.
As a hybrid author with eight published indie books, and two books out on submission with two different literary agents in two different countries in two different genres, I certainly don’t do typical.
And lately, I’ve been hearing from my readers and students telling me the same. They read all the blogs, take all the classes and then email me to say, “but none of it feels right for me.”
And here’s what I say to them (and you):
There is no one way to do this.
You can choose to have any kind of writing career you want.
You can choose to write articles or write a book.
You can choose to be a traditionally published author, or go indie, or both.
You can choose to wait for an assignment or publish on Medium.
You can choose to write under various pseudonyms.
You can choose to write in different genres.
You can choose how frequently you’ll publish, and what.
You can choose to have different agents for different projects (I have two!)
You can choose to ignore everything that feels wrong to you.
There is no one way to build a successful writing career, and the best and fastest way to success will be for you to trust that you know what is right for your work and your career more than any agent, editor or publisher ever could.
You didn’t come here to be one of them. You came here to be you.
Trust that you know what is right for you.
Cheers,
Natasha
