Hey everyone,
I can’t hold it in any longer! I’ve been thinking about it for a bit and am incredibly excited to now be at a point where I can talk about it.
I’m starting a Mastermind! For authors!
It’s called Bookish Pursuits.
For so long, a large number of my students and coaching clients have been asking me to put together something that will help them regularly connect with authors who are as serious as they are about their careers, who are on an upward trajectory, who have big dreams and goals, and who are committed to showing up seriously for their publishing careers.
As it happens, this is something I, too, have wanted over the years.
The conversations authors have in public are so incredibly different from the conversations authors have with their agents, their editors, their publishers, and their peers. We don’t talk about how many agents we go through on the way to our first publishing deal (I parted ways with mine last month, after five years together), how many edits it takes to get a novel ready for submission, how agents and publishers will discuss not just social media followings and publication credits but how articulate you are and how photogenic. Diversity is the new buzzword and agents and publishers alike want books from people of color, but let’s not talk about how us “diverse” authors are required to write a specific kind of narrative, that if we decide to put white characters in our books but not center their perspectives, we get pushback and detailed “notes.”
Or rather, let’s.
That is why I’m creating this mastermind. I want like-minded writers to have a platform to connect and talk about the real shit that goes on behind the scenes.
I want us to come together and write.
I want us to come together and talk.
I want us to come together and hold each other accountable, not just in terms of when and how much we write, but in what kind of behavior and treatment we allow in our careers, from publishing professionals, and from ourselves.
This is the Mastermind I have been looking for over the last five years and been unable to find.
I want this to be a group of authors I grow with. This will be my community, my people, the friends I rely on and share everything with as I climb up the publishing ladder.
There will be coaching, there will be Zoom parties, there will be resources (such as how to build your email list to 10k+ subscribers and beyond), there will be recordings of behind-the-scenes conversations I have with my business partner, my agent, my editor, and my mentors. There will be emergency calls available, so that you never find yourself alone at the worst possible time, and of course, there will be unlimited access to me.
As I said, this will be MY COMMUNITY as I move forward in my publishing career and I’ll be super transparent about how I run my business and make my decisions. I’ve already recorded a conversation I had with Sam about how we’re going to launch my indie series, the shutting down of parts of my business (and the “shit! fuck!” moments that came with that), and the traditional projects I have in the pipeline. I talk briefly about why I turned down a book deal from one of the big five publishers. (Something you should know about me: I don’t live in scarcity. Book deals are plentiful, as far as I’m concerned. I’m only interested in the right ones FOR ME. We’ll talk about that, too.)
This is actually a pretty low-cost offer considering all you get to have and be a part of. The current launch price is less per month than what I charge for ONE session of coaching. However, because I want this to be MY community, the people I go to when I’m in a funk, and because I only want people in this group whose energies align with mine, membership is by invitation only.
I have 20 open spots in the early sign up round.
If this sounds like something you might be interested in or you’re curious about working with me personally, email me and tell me a bit about your publishing dreams and journey, and I’ll send you the details.
Every author I know talks about publishing being a long and difficult road. And it is. Which is why I intend to have fun and make lifelong friends along the way.
Whether or not you join me, I hope you do too!
Let me know if you’d like more info on the Mastermind. I’ll see you there.
Cheers,
Natasha
